Whats your workspace setup?

Workspace Desk

Workspaces are very important. Everyone needs a private place to do there work whether it be, school work, office work or general work. Since computers, work has got every so easier to do. What with software like Microsoft Office a person is able to create word processor documents, powerpoint presentations, charts and graphs on spreadsheets and lots more with little effort. So we have the software to do this, but what about the hardware? Again we do have the hardware, but when it comes to computers a computer screen comes in different sizes and screen resolutions. This is where a persons workspace can differ as there are many setups, but which one do you have?

My workspace setup is a large 27″ monitor for my main PC, I used to have a 17″ but if I went and downgraded now, I’d probably not be able to live with it because once you have big you ain’t going back! Well I certainly won’t be going back but I could of ran a dual setup and purchased two 17″ monitors something like this:

dual-screen

But ever since I got my laptop my desk is set up like this:

My Laptop and PC are both networked so they share files, infact my PC has a partition on it’s hard drive with a completly different drive labelled Shared Resources (S:) this is where all of my website development work, localhost server, documents and general work is installed. I also tend to install some programs to the S:/ drive and share them over my network. I don’t like to load loads of applications on Laptop, so instead when im at home I let the laptop run programs off the network rather than it’s on Hard Drive. It makes sense to me, programs like browsers e.g. Safari or Opera which I don’t use that much, I can share them on the network and my laptop can use them too, even though they are not directly installed on the laptops HDD.

You may have noticed that my PC and laptop do not run the same Operating System, My Laptop runs Windows Vista Ultimate and my PC is running Windows XP (With the Windows Classic theme because im old school kthx) but I can also mixed around my screen set up. For example I can run a extended monitor set up, where by if im using a laptop and I need to have alot of windows open I can do this:

extended

My Laptop now has a 27″ screen attached to it, if you notice the Windows Sidebar is now appearing on my extended monitor and I am able to drag windows from the laptop onto the extended monitor so free up my laptops screen area.

I can also go big another way and simply tell Vista to display it’s screen on the external monitor only, for example, if im working on some website development and I want a big screen to work on I can choose external only and display Vista like this:

external

I have different setups for different tasks, but whats your set up? How do you have your computers or desk setup as you can see my desk focusing away from the computers sitting on it, is quite messy! BUt how do you have your computers set up?
